One of the first schemes delivered by Prima 200, Fenton Health Centre accommodates two GP practices as well as a host of community services, from speech and language therapy and community nursing to minor surgery and phlebotomy.
Three factors led to the birth of the new Fenton Health Centre. First, the two existing general practices serving the area occupied converted residential properties which suffered severe space restrictions and access problems. This made the development of new, fit-for-purpose premises a priority for the PCT. Second, an existing PCT-owned site was available for a new build and was conveniently located in the heart of the existing patient population. Third, the site’s prominent location offered the opportunity to clearly demonstrate the PCT’s long-term commitment to investing in modern local healthcare provision and the wellbeing of the community.
Beating the development challenge - on all levels
The site was perfectly placed in the centre of the patient population and as a site already owned by the local primary care trust. It was a perfect location for the new Fenton Primary Care Centre however it had a number of development challenges – the key one being the vastly different levels across the land. Prima 200 and their design team from One Creative Environments Ltd overcame the dramatic level differences on this crossroads site by removing excess earth and implementing a piled retaining wall. These measures provided a DDA compliant access to the centre from both the front entrance and from the car park at the back. The exterior, with its striking green colour scheme, extensive glazing and intersecting angles, makes the most of the Centre’s high-profile position on the elevated corner site.RELATED ITEMS:
