City health centre shortlisted for three property awards

Stoke-on-Trent’s own Cobridge Community Health Centre has been shortlisted for three accolades at this year’s Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) West Midlands Awards.

The primary and community care facility, which opened in October 2011 and includes pioneering sexual health services, has been put forward for the awards by Prime, private sector development partner in local LIFTCo, Prima 200. The health centre will go head-to-head with other new and regeneration projects from around the region in the ‘Regeneration’, ‘Community Benefit’ and ‘Design through Innovation’ categories.

The RICS Awards showcase the most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land, property and construction, celebrating the achievements of professionals working in both the built and natural environment. If Cobridge Community Health Centre is successful in any of the three categories it is nominated for, it will go on to represent the West Midlands in the national RICS Awards in London, competing against projects from across the UK.

The West Midlands awards will be judged over the coming months, and the winners will be announced at a special ceremony taking place at the Heart of England Conference and Events Centre on 15 May.

Steve Sprackling, Development Director at Prime said; “The community health centre development is an important scheme in a 15-year programme of regeneration of Cobridge, and one which has injected new life into a once derelict site and encouraged the community to reconnect with their local health and wellbeing services.

“Although there is strong competition in the region, the health centre stands shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the most innovative new and regeneration projects in the West Midlands and we will be hoping for a win – or three – in May.”

Cobridge Community Health Centre was commissioned by NHS Stoke on Trent and delivered by Prima 200 through the Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) programme – a public private partnership with Prime and Community Health Partnerships, who is also the centre’s Head Tenant.
