Refurbished city centre Victorian building: Hanley Health & Wellbeing Centre (walk-in)

Challenges

Refurbishing a 100-year-old derelict building that was split in two halves. One half of the building formerly a bank, the other half a former furniture shop. Challenging timeframe.

Solution

Developing the programme for the project, highlighting key milestones, co-ordinating the processes and keeping the project on track to meet deadlines.  Removing the internal wall to open up the building.

Adopting a legible, sustainable refurbishment strategy incorporating modern materials, features and information technology whilst preserving and promoting original features of interest.

Involving the future tenants and users of the building in the design and development , working closely to agree on aspects quickly such as interior design. The interior layout is flexible for use for a wide range of health and social care services. A modern ‘shop front’ exterior helps blend the health centre into its city centre locality.
